When I think of all the dreams we had, the wishes that we shared

The kisses in the moonlight, the symbols that we cared

I wonder why I took those dreams and let us drift apart

Tears gathered behind her eyelids and her heart clenched as if a fist had grabbed it. “Oh, Mac,” was all she could say.

He put the guitar down and came over to the bed. Very precisely he kissed each protruding nipple, skimmed her collarbone, then brushed his lips against hers.

“The song says it all, Daisy. Life without you just hasn’t been worth a damn.

“You’ll never know how much I regret what happened. All the years we wasted because of it. I was an idiot, Daisy. A stupid fool. If you didn’t want me I couldn’t blame you.”

“Not want you?” Now the tears were running down her cheeks. “My life has been nothing without you. I want it all with you, Mac. Everything. All the things we dreamed of so long ago.”

“I’d give it all up tomorrow if that was the only way I could have you back.”

“You know I’d never ask that of you,” she told him. “Just give me your heart, Mac. That’s all I want.”

“You’ve got it, Daisy flower. And my promise I’ll always be faithful to you.” He leaned forward and brushed his lips over hers. “You know, I told Jimmy I wanted to meet with you so you could plan a special event,” he reminded her.

“And what was that all about, anyway?”

He took one of her small hands in his and kissed each knuckle, then gave her what she called the famous Mac Fontana look. Only this one wasn’t for anyone but her.

“Our wedding. I want you to plan our wedding. Please say you’ll marry me, Daisy. Be my wife. I can’t do it anymore without you.”

“Are you absolutely sure this is what you want?”

“God, how can you even ask? This is all I want.” His voice was thick with emotion. “This is everything.”

Daisy threw her arms around him and pressed her body to his. “Then yes, yes, yes. I’ll marry you. I love you.”

“Soon?”

The pleading look on his face almost made her laugh. “Yes. Very soon. Whenever you want.”

“As soon as you can get it together.” He lightly teased one nipple. “I know you have a business to run, so if we need to live here in the city instead of at the ranch—”

She pressed her fingertips to his mouth. “Hush. Those are all details we can work out.”

“Then just get this wedding together,” he told her. “I don’t want to waste any more time. Pick whatever date you want. I’ll even change my schedule if I have to.”

Now she did laugh. “I told you.
